Where We Gather – Brewing Belonging
This documentary explores Halifax’s coffee culture through the stories of three women-owned cafés. Highlighting the hard work, passion, and dedication required to run a small local business, the film asks an important question: Can meaningful connections still be built in today's world? Their stories may offer an answer.
Combining observational filmmaking with interview-based storytelling, the documentary presents cafés not only as businesses but also as important social gathering spaces within their communities.
Another key aspect of the project is the creative integration of film and typography. Typographic elements become an important part of the cinematic narrative, functioning as a visual storytelling layer within the frame.
Accompanying the film, a poster was designed to promote its premiere, which took place on July 4 at MOM's Café in Heidelberg. In addition, a postcard was created to promote the film more broadly.
This project was developed during my exchange semester at NSCAD University in Halifax, Canada. It was generously supported by the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung through its Scholarship for International Exchange Program.
